When you return for a long weekend or off- season week, you will find deep discounts on rentals and specials at various restaurant\u2019s you wanted to try during the season but were too busy for you to get in.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"219\" src=\"https:\/\/thedoshierteam.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/sssss-1.jpg\" alt=\"Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge\" class=\"wp-image-311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thedoshierteam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/sssss-1.jpg 512w, https:\/\/thedoshierteam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/sssss-1-250x107.jpg 250w, https:\/\/thedoshierteam.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/sssss-1-120x51.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t miss the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fws.gov\/office\/coastal-north-carolina-national-wildlife-refuges-gateway-visitor-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>on Roanoke Island and its state-of-the-art exhibits\u2014all free!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then, venture to the Dare County mainland to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge\u2019s popular&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/media\/tearsheet-map-alligator-river-national-wildlife-refuge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Murphy Peterson Wildlife Drive<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;where locals compete to see who can count the most black bear in one evening!&nbsp; Wildlife abounds in these farming and moist soil management units.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00a0If you are looking for adventure,\u00a0a great way to explore the refuge is by canoe or kayak, using the Refuge\u2019s 15+ miles of color-coded Paddling Trails.\u00a0Explore the\u00a0<strong>Milltail Creek Paddling Trails<\/strong>!\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are two, half-mile, universally accessible wildlife trails for a leisurely stroll in a beautiful, quiet and secluded place.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;During spring, summer, and fall, enrich your experience by joining us for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/media\/alligator-river-and-pea-island-nwr-interpretive-program-schedule\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>guided tour<\/strong><\/a><strong>.&nbsp;<\/strong>Depending on the season, the refuge offers guided canoe tours, tram tours, and Red Wolf howling\u2019s, weekly to monthly.&nbsp;&nbsp;We also have other guided programs including the Young Naturalist program for preschoolers and others all the way to adults.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For wildlife photographers, there is a great portable\u00a0photo blind\u00a0that is moved around from place to place and free for your use!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The refuge is open from sunrise to sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roads throughout the refuge are graveled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hiking is allowed in all areas open to the public. Wildlife observation and photography are encouraged. Bicycling is allowed only on designated public access routes\/roads. Bikes are not allowed on walking trails. Horseback riding is allowed on signed refuge public access routes open to motor vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fishing is allowed as per state regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hunting is permitted on the refuge in accordance with all state and federal regulations. Hunters should consult the North Carolina state hunting regulations. Special refuge&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fws.gov\/media\/alligator-river-national-wildlife-refuge-hunting-regulations-permit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hunting regulations<\/a>&nbsp;also apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will find fishermen along the roads in this area of the mainland.&nbsp; They even fish for Crappies in the winter.
